The Making of a Mural
An illustrated talk with Jacobina Oele
Murals transform walls into stories, and Asheville is full of them, but how are they actually made?
Public Art is free
Asheville is surrounded by stunning murals, but have you ever wondered how these large-scale works of art come to life? Asheville is a vibrant arts city, with every kind of expression on display at all times. There are beautiful sculptures, murals, and street art around almost every corner downtown, and plenty of incredible installations in other parts of the community as well. Unlike other towns where expression is confined to a museum, Asheville is a place where art is everywhere.
Look behind the scenes
Join a talk with Jacobina Oele, a seasoned muralist, for a behind-the-scenes presentation on the art and craft of mural-making. Jacobina will share her process from first sketch to final brushstroke, drawing from her experience creating a large-scale mural for the University of Miami. Expect images, stories, and insights into the creative decisions, materials, and challenges that go into bringing monumental works of art to life.
