With so many people interested in predicting the future, I wonder why that is. I think most people believe that circumstances happen to us and that we are powerless against them. I know we are not. That said, there are world events beyond our control, but how much do they really influence our well-being? Our day-to-day lives?
To feel powerless often means we lack the information needed to create a clear picture of where we are going. This morning, the fog is dense, a fitting metaphor for the uncertainty we sometimes face. In such moments, we take things one day at a time and hope the fog will eventually lift.
I am reading The Stoic: “Today we might be laid low with struggles, whereas just a few years ago, we might have lived high on the hog, and in just a few days, we might be doing so well that success is actually a burden. One thing will stay constant: our freedom of choice.”
That freedom can be intimidating since we don’t always know all the factors at play. Without a studio and the pressure of covering extra costs, I find myself refining my purpose. I will paint again, probably outdoors once the weather warms up, but for now, I want to assist artists in gaining clarity about their trajectory.
