In January 2024, I became a member of the River Arts District Association in Asheville. Recently this community and surrounding areas were hard hit by hurricane Helene. Two years ago I lost my house after hurricane Ian. Since then I have been looking for a safe place in a friendly community. I thought I found it in Asheville among an artist community and a place where healing is a priority.
Eighty percent of our group of artists lost everything they ever worked for. It is emotionally draining to experience this. After a challenging summer, the fall season was my hope to make Plein Air paintings, sitting by several local creeks of colorful trees and sell some. That hope is gone, the riverside is currently inaccessible and ugly. For at least six months I am not expecting any tourists to come and visit Asheville where there is no water and many roads are gone.
The sound of helicopters is a constant humming in the air. Hotels in Asheville are occupied by rescue people from all over the nation, from Indiana to California. Big tanks with water come to give them showers and do laundry. Locals help each other with warm meals and baby stuff. There is a lot of camaraderie. The knee deep mud in the street is slowly becoming powdery and swirls through the air. Many people left because of the lack of water. Traffic is light.
People know me as a survivor who always finds her path. However, I need to find a new way to continue spreading beauty. Therefore, I am asking you to donate what you can to support my business of painting, on-line teaching and coaching. I thank you in advance,
